Go one step forward. Master THE configuration.
SDI Sidemount Diver
This course is designed to teach certified divers how to safely utilize side-mounted primary cylinders as an alternative to the traditional back-mounted configuration. For Recrecreational diving this course is strictly non-decompression with a maximum depth limit of 40m/130ft, or within the limit of the student’s current certification, whichever is shallower.
We cover topics of the academic portion of the course followed by land drills, safety-drill and in-water skills in both the open water zone and cavern zone of the cave. Skills to be completed by the student are:
We use Nitrox as our breathing gas on every dive. If not Nitrox certified, no worries. Check our TDI Nitrox course.

- Plan dive
- Test and check all equipment (depth gauges, bottom timers/watches and computers)
- Familiarization with area
- Descend to planed depth and do not exceed any pre-planned limits
- Demonstrate the ability to safely manage gas in independent cylinders
- Monitor depth/time/air consumption, figure all times on slate
- Demonstrate ability to control buoyancy
- Attaching sidemount cylinders while
- a. Out of water
- b. On surface standing on bottom
- c. On surface in water to deep to stand
- d. At depth
- Perform gas switches
- Perform safety stops

TDI Sidemount Diver
This course is designed to teach certified divers how to safely utilize side-mounted primary cylinders as an alternative to the traditional back-mounted configuration. This course can be combined with other TDI courses such as: Decompression Procedures, Extended Range, Trimix, Advanced Trimix and Advanced Wreck. If combined the standards for both courses must be met.

- Demonstrate various propulsion techniques: frog kick, modified frog kick, modified flutter kick, backwards kick, helicopter turns, and hand pulling if appropriate for the environment
- Demonstrate adequate buoyancy control; ability to hover at fixed position in water column without moving hands or feet
- Demonstrate adequate trim; ability to maintain proper position during the descent, bottom and ascent portion of the dive
- Demonstrate the ability to perform the following exercises while maintaining trim and buoyancy in the water column:
- a. Unclipping and attaching sidemount cylinders
- b. Perform gas switches with and without a mask
- Demonstrate the ability to safely manage gas in independent cylinders
- Demonstrate conservation, awareness, and back referencing techniques
- Deploy lift bag
- Carry additional cylinder(s); optional
